Translated by Dr. Dinesh Sewa Rathod, “Yadi” (Mother)—From Tanda toTriumph is not merely an autobiography of the original author, but an unforgettable human saga of struggle, deep emotion, maternity, and social transformation. Originally written in Marathi, this celebrated work serves as an authentic document of the life-struggles of Mr. Panjabrao Chavan (‘Yadikar’). Through his personal experiences, it paints a vivid portrait of the history, culture, living values, and social reality of the Banjara community.     Born in a modest Banjara Tanda in Maharashtra, the author’s journey begins amidst hunger, deprivation, and penury, ultimately culminating in education, self-reliance, administrative service, and dedicated social service. At the heart of this journey lies ‘Yadi’—the mother—whose sacrifice, relentless labor, maternal devotion, and moral fortitude become the foundational pillars of the author’s character. Consequently, this work transcends the story of an individual life, emerging as a powerful literary testament to the universal dignity of motherhood and human values.     Unfolding over twenty-one chapters, this memoir presents an intensely sensitive and realistic portrayal of life in the Banjara tanda, its folklore and culture, education, social disparities, superstitions, love, familial bonds, administrative experiences, and the persistent quest for social justice. The author’s candor, self-introspection, and unvarnished expression earn this work a distinguished place in contemporary Indian autobiographical literature.       In this English  edition, Dr. Dinesh Rathod has made a profound effort to preserve the soul, cultural contexts, and emotional depth of the original Marathi masterpiece while bringing it to a broader English readership. This edition stands as a crucial literary bridge across Indian languages and a meaningful contribution toward elevating Banjara literature within the national perspective.     His peerless contributions to English,  Banjara and Hindi literature have carved out a unique and prestigious niche for him on the literary landscape. His pen remains constantly active in creative pursuits across diverse fields such as linguistics and research. His primary mission is the preservation and dissemination of the ancient history, rich language, vibrant culture, and great personalities of the Banjara community; notably, he is working to bring significant literary works by Banjara authors to the new generation on a global scale by translating them into Hindi and English. For his unparalleled and groundbreaking contributions to education, literature, and social service, he has been bestowed with numerous prestigious honors.
