In my book, "Prachin Shahabad- Ek Parichay aur Karathgatha", I have written a brief introduction to Bihar and specifically to the ancient Shahabad district for the information of expatriate Biharis, residents of the ancient Shahabad district and other Bihar-loving citizens. Through this book, I have attempted to provide a brief introduction to Bihar, ancient Shahabad, and Karath village, highlighting their historical, religious, and educational significance, the great freedom fighters, prominent figures and natural resources. Specifically, I describe the gradual changes in the Shahabadi community's lifestyle, food and nutrition, agriculture, household practices, animal husbandry, sources and means of drinking water and irrigation. The chapter Karathagatha contains a true story heard and seen by the eyes of six generations of the village Karath.I have written this chapter, Karathagatha, from 1880 to 1960 based on information gathered from conversations with my ancestors and from questions I asked out of curiosity during discussions on special occasions. I have written this article based on what I saw, heard, experienced, and lived from 1961 to December 2025.Through the chapter "Karthagatha," I have attempted to express the sensibilities of nature and the emotions of the people through poems, folk tales, and proverbs. In "Karthagatha," I have briefly described the history of the Dhekha Rajput (also known as Dekha or Dhaka Rajput) community. I have also presented a research paper on the Rajput surnames being changed from "Raivarman/Varman" to "Rai" and "Rai" to "Singh."I hope that "Prachin Shahabad- Ek Parichay aur Karathgatha" will prove to be a significant document from a sociological perspective. After reading "Karthagatha," the discerning readers of ancient Shahabad will surely be delighted to recall the rural life of their village.
