Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder, and its increasing nature is mostlyresponsible for rapid urbanisation, irregular lifestyle, diet pattern and mental distress.Nowadays, I feel, Diabetes is known to all of us because its prevalence is increasingrapidly. In urban areas, about 10 to 14% and in rural areas about 3 to 7% are suffering fromdiabetes, and the total population in India is about 73 million, among individuals aged 20years and above, with a much higher prevalence among individuals aged over 50 years as perthe INDIAB study in October 2019. The diabetic not only suffers but has recurring expenditures, and if complications set in, then expenditures increase manyfold. Along with sufferings and disability it produces a tremendous economic burden to the individual, family and as well as to the society. It is seen that medical expenditure for a Diabetic is about 2.5 times higher than that of a non- Diabetic. Hence, it requires special attention, planning and awareness among all types of people. Dr. P. Elliot Joslin, the founder of Joslin clinic, Boston, US, commented- “The diabetic who knows the most, lives the longest” And Prof. Dr. M. Viswanathan, the founder of M.V. Hospital for Diabetes and Diabetes Research Center, Chennai, India used to say- “ Early detection of Diabetes is the best form of Diabetes prevention and good control of Diabetes is the way to prevention of complication”. But it requires tremendous effort, help and assistance among all classes of people. The present book- “Modhumeha, Prosnottor rup me” in Hindi version, for especiallyHindi-speaking persons, is a little forward in this regard. If it helps a little, then the effort willbe regarded as a success.
